Dental Implants by The Burley Dental Suite
A dental implant is an artificial ‘root’ which is generally inserted into the jaw bone. After a period of around 3 months your bone cells fuse to the surface of the implant thus allowing them to support a restoration such as a bridge or a crown. In patients with loose dentures, dental implants can also be used to stabilise the denture for better retention.
Once the bone has fused to the implant giving a stable ‘root’, a post, or abutment, is then screwed into the implant. A crown can then be fixed to the post completing the treatment. For larger gaps, multiple implants may be required.
We have completed well over a thousand dental Implants at the practice. We are proud to offer ‘teeth in a day’ procedures, in which you can leave the same day with a new set of teeth screwed into dental implants!
The greatest advantage of dental implants is that they do not affect the teeth next to them, and research over the past 30 years consistently shows restorations supported by implants are the longest lasting when compared to standard dentures or bridgework. Multiple research papers show success rates of 95-99% globally, and the success in the Western World is at the higher end of this estimate.
Treatment involving implants depends upon the body accepting it, and in rare cases, it can be rejected. Also, the hygiene maintenance of the patient needs to be regularly kept up to, acting on the advice of the dentist and the dental team will ensure many, many years of success and stability.
We offer free consultations for these treatments, both in Burley in Wharfedale, and our Shipley offices.
